Find me at the place where science meets art.

I am an artisan knifemaker, based in Melbourne, Australia, with a background in science and art.

My journey into knifemaking began with me trying to make a knife out of an old file in the basement under my house. I had very little idea what I was doing and it wasn’t a great knife, but I enjoyed the tactile nature of working with my hands, and the achievement of having made something functional and useful (at least mostly functional!). Keen to learn more, I completed a few courses and got some equipment to set up my workshop, then it kind of snowballed from there!

I have a PhD in Biochemistry and worked as a research scientist for a number of years, both in the UK and Australia, before switching careers to pursue more creative passions. I have always had an interest in art and design, and love getting immersed in sketching, drawing and painting.

Knifemaking brings together all of the things that I love. It allows me to be creative, to make things with my hands, to experiment and understand how things work. I believe that my scientific background gives me a unique perspective, and an understanding of the importance of measurement, attention to detail, and repeatability that is required for successful knives. My interest in art and design allows me to bring an appreciation of balance and composition to my knife designs.

Sustainability and longevity of the tools and objects we use in our lives is important, and I am keen to move away from the throwaway culture we find ourselves in. My goal in knifemaking is to create high quality, beautiful knives, designed to be used and cherished for generations.

If you are looking for a knife that is both beautiful and functional, I encourage you to have a browse on my website or drop me a line.
